Montblanc Patron of Art Homage to Scipione Borghese
With the Patron of Art Edition of 2017, Montblanc is continuing its series of sponsors of artists who have shaped history. This year the choice fell on the patron of the arts of the most exclusive sculpture collection of the baroque epoch worldwide.
Scipione Borghese was an Italian cardinal and is considered one of the greatest and most influential lovers, patrons and collectors of Roman Baroque art. His uncle, Camillo Borghese, was elected Pope Paul V in 1605 and appointed him Cardinal and Head of State of the Vatican.
As patron, he paved the way for the success of many artists, such as the sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini or the painter Caravaggio.
The Montblanc Patron of Art Homage to Scipione Borghese Limited Edition 4810 fountain pen is inspired in shape and design by the interior architecture and gardens of Villa Borghese.
The head of the cap reminds of the shape of a cardinal's hat. The cone head, made of carnelian, is adorned with the portrait of Scipione Borghese. The marble floors in the Galeria Borghese served as inspiration for the granite body. Cap and fittings are ruthenium coated. The nib, handcrafted from solid 18-K gold, is decorated with a fine engraving that takes up Scipione Borghese's coat of arms.
