The Montblanc Great Characters Edition of 2019 is dedicated to Walt Disney. Few artists have left such a lasting mark on pop culture as he did. With unforgettable cartoon characters, groundbreaking films and stories filled with hope, he captured the imagination of young and old. His name is arguably forever associated with the art of animation and with American film history. From his original idea to improve the technique of cartoon production, a true empire of unimaginable size has grown.
Born in Chicago in 1901, Walt Disney was a pioneer throughout his life, and not just on the silver screen. From his beginnings as an animator, Disney challenged the artistic possibilities of his time and continued to redefine the boundaries of filmmaking. In 1955, he pushed the boundaries of the film world and opened the first Disneyland Park in California.
In 1928, his legendary film Steamboat Willie was released - one of the first ever animated films set to music, which brought Mickey Mouse to fame. Even before Disney turned 40, his creative output was widely recognized, earning a total of 22 Oscars and 59 nominations - a record that remains unbroken to this day.
As a tribute to the year of his birth, the pen edition is limited to 1901 pieces. The shape of the pen is inspired by the legendary monorail, and the cap, made of platinum-plated metal and various lacquer inlays in yellow, adorns a lacquered multiplane camera that Disney popularized. The engraving on the platinum-plated cone of the 1901 Limited Edition pays homage to Disney's Snow White: it refers to the technical specifications (1.33:1, 83 MIN) and the date and place of the world premiere (21/12/1937, LA).
