With the Montblanc masterpiece Solitaire Calligraphy Gold Leaf Flex Nib fountain pen, Montblanc impressively demonstrates its exceptional competence in nib production.
The body of the fountain pen corresponds to the masterpiece LeGrand size, but has a much higher weight thanks to its metal body. Gold leaf is applied to the black lacquered surface and protected with a layer of clear lacquer.
The nib is already optically extraordinary. Very pointed and decorated with a wonderful engraving of swings, it stands out clearly from the normal masterpiece nib.
The writing characteristics of the 18-K gold nib are unique. Written without pressure, the ink flow is wonderfully reduced and light, but without ever being exposed. The line width without pressure is in the range of a fine nib (approx. 0.3 mm).
As soon as some pressure is built up, the nib reacts with a wonderfully lush flow of ink and a strong line. Now the nib writes like a fine or medium nib width. If the pressure is now increased further, line widths in the range of a double-width spring (approx. 1.3 mm) can be achieved with downward movements.
The pressure point is perfectly chosen so that the spring can be written very precisely without fatigue. The nib and ink flow react directly to changes in pressure and allow for wonderful variations in the typeface.
We are enthusiastic about this nib and love the range of stroke widths it offers. We are also absolutely fascinated by the two-stage ink flow. For us it is one of the best modern flexible springs.
