Pelikan
Pelikan's roots date back to 1838. This year, the chemist Carl Hornemann founded a small production for ink and watercolours near Hannover. In 1871 he sold the company to his production manager Günther Wagner, who then gave the company his name and at the same time took over the pelican from his family crest as a logo. He wanted to make his inks recognizable. In 1879 he registered Pelikan as a trademark and created one of the oldest brands in Germany.
In the following years the company grew and expanded in the field of ink, glue and watercolors. 1929, the first Pelikan fountain pen was created after Pelikan had acquired the patent for the differential piston mechanism. In the following decades, the company consolidated its reputation internationally as a supplier of highest quality fountain pens.
Today's high quality pens from Pelikan have an extremely long shelf life due to their high quality. It is often the case in our shop that fountain pens from the 1920s and 30s are used for "overhaul". They still work flawlessly and only need new sealing rings (a consumable). -
