Montblanc x Fritz Schimpf Special Edition The Expressive

As a result of a richly fruitful collaboration with Montblanc, a long-cherished dream has come true for our company`s 140th anniversary in 2020: the creation of an italic flex nib.

The Montblanc x Fritz Schimpf Special Edition The Expressive fountain pen is based on the iconic Montblanc Meisterstück 149 with a custom designed italic flex nib.

The 18-K gold nib features a special cut, carefully formulated through a creative process with Montblanc. The Expressive`s nib unique italic cut facilitates varying line widths in both horizontal and vertical strokes.

The nib of the Montblanc x Fritz Schimpf Special Edition The Expressive fountain pen is also flexible, making possible vertical line width variation by applying moderate pressure.

The blend of these two factors results in exceptional cursive and printed handwriting. To write with The Expressive is to be enchanted anew by the simple pleasure of ink on paper.



SPECIFICATIONS

Without pressure, the line width, as measured on Fritz Schimpf Feinpost paper and written with Fritz Schimpf Fritzrot ink, is approximately 0.18 mm horizontally and 0.80 mm vertically. The maximum vertical line width is approximately 1.60 mm.

These dimensions are ideal for highly individualized cursive writing, printing or sketching.

The upper surface of the yellow gold 18-K / 750 gold nib is engraved with the graceful Montblanc flex nib curves. Discreetly engraved on the left shoulder of the nib is “The Expressive”; and on the right “Fritz Schimpf”.



SUGGESTIONS

The writing properties are exceptional due to the nib`s special cut combined with fl exibility and therefore not at all comparable to standard Italic nibs.

Writing with the nib requires the two tines to be placed in parallel. Pressure needs to be applied on down strokes, but not on other strokes.

The maximum pressure point is reached when the ink feed touches the paper or when the approximately 1.60 mm maximum line width is reached.

Depending on the ink, railroading, i.e. a double line, may occur before or after the maximum pressure point has been exceeded.

Excessive writing pressure is not recommended and may damage the nib.

Very smooth paper may signifi cantly reduce the pleasure of writing.

It is possible that ink may accumulate on the upper surface of the nib. Should that occur, we recommend cleaning the nib surface before capping.
